Organizational Leadership, Bachelor of Science
The Bachelor of Science with a Major in Organizational Leadership (ORGL) degree prepares students to focus on the theories, practices, issues, and specific ramifications of leading an organization. The multidisciplinary curriculum provides an understanding of management, administration, human resources, ethics, and technology related to today’s complex organizations in the public, private, or non-profit sectors.
The degree program offers tracks in Health Care Administration, Office Administration & Technology, Public Service, and Social Justice.
The program learning outcomes are:
- Students will demonstrate an understanding of organizational leadership as it relates to and impacts individuals, communities, and wider society from democratic, multicultural, and national perspectives.
- Students will express themselves effectively on topics and issues related to the field of organizational leadership.
- Students will apply critical thinking and problem-solving abilities regarding issues related to key challenges that organizations face when interacting with their environments.
- Students will demonstrate an understanding of the ethical principles underlying both research and practice in organizational leadership.
Health Care Administration Track
Through a degree in organizational leadership, the healthcare administration concentration prepares students for health services careers, such as healthcare administrator through the study of leadership issues specific to the healthcare industry. Health administrators may find employment in various areas, including hospitals, long-term care facilities, medical practices, outpatient centers, government agencies, insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, and many more.
Office Administration & Technology Track
Courses in the office administration and technology concentration will cover areas that are fundamental to organizational leadership in an office setting, such as using office technology and equipment, office procedures and management, document processing and design, web technology for the office, communication skills, and decision-making. Students who earn a degree in organizational leadership in Office Administration & Technology will be prepared for various professional positions, including administrative, support, supervisory, and managerial.
Public Service Track
Courses in the public service degree concentration in the organizational leadership program will cover the components of public sector management, including public policy, public management, and professional ethics. A concentration in public service will prepare students for jobs in public service within any area of the public sector, including public safety (law enforcement, fire, and rescue), state and local public administration, nonprofit management, and public relations.
Social Justice Track
Courses in the social justice degree concentration in the organizational leadership degree program will provide appropriate frameworks and tools to assist students in analyzing complex issues and promoting social change. A concentration in social justice will prepare students to be the leaders of a paradigm shift and promote social equity change in law enforcement, the judicial system, the healthcare industry, and economics.
